About One Handed Cooks

Starting solids with One Handed Cooks launched in 2022 following over 10 years of One Handed Cooks providing nutrition and starting solids advice as well as hundreds of simple healthy and clever recipes to families to help make food a source of enjoyment and nourishment for their children.

Our best-selling and much-loved collection of cookbooks, One Handed Cooks – how to raise a healthy happy eater (2016), Boosting Your Basics (2019) and The Family Meal Solution (2022) offers achievable recipes, friendly and realistic nutrition information as well as tips and strategies to help you in starting solids and  managing fussy eating behaviours.

We have given hundreds of thousands of parents over the years the knowledge and tools they need to wean their babies with confidence and by putting it altogether into our membership we are making it easier than ever! Guiding you from four months of age through to their first birthday we understand learning to eat takes time and we have the building blocks you need to give your baby the skills to have an enjoyable and positive life-long association with food and eating. The Team

Jessica Beaton is an Accredited Practising Dietitian, devoted mum of four, writer and cook. Jessica has a passion for starting solids and inspiring families to enjoy happy mealtimes and a healthy love of food. She combines her personal journey as a mum of four fun-loving boys with 17 years of evidence-based training and experience as a dietitian to simplify the science and educate parents in a friendly and practical way. Jessica continues to gain an understanding in all areas of feeding children with further training in ‘Picky Eaters vs Problem Feeders: The Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) Approach to Feeding’ and ‘Making SENSE of Mealtimes’. She has received professional certification in Maternity, Infants and Children’s Nutrition in Practice presented by Child D and the Dietitians’ Association of Australia and the Unit 1 Certificate in Paediatric Nutrition & Dietetics run by The Royal Children’s Hospital Melbourne. Allie Gaunt is a former advertising copywriter, devoted mum of three, writer and cook with more than six years of hands-on childcare experience. She founded One Handed Cooks when her first child, Harry started solids in 2012 she found herself preparing food with a baby on one hip and was keen to connect with other parents and share her positive experiences. Allie is passionate about feeding children nutritious, homemade food and making mealtimes happy, and she has inspired families around the world to make positive, healthy changes for their children. Editor and co-writer of the One Handed Cooks magazine. Sarah Nauvasi is a dedicated primary school teacher, soon to be mama of one, and much-loved aunty of five with a passion for baking. A co-director of One Handed Cooks, she loves capturing the enjoyment of childhood and cherished food moments while showcasing simple, wholesome food to perfection. Recipe tester, photographer and food stylist of the One Handed Cooks magazine. Due to have her own baby at the end of 2022 Sarah has all the info at the tip of her fingers to start solids with confidence. She will be a valuable member and contributor to this community.
