Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks
One Handed Cooks is one of Australia’s leading brands in baby, toddler and family food and nutrition. With an Accredited Practising Dietitian as part of our team and having started solids many times to our tribe of children, we know what it takes to nurture babies into happy little eaters.
Introduce solids to your baby safely by knowing when to feed them, what to feed them & how to feed them. Help make them feel safe and secure in order to support their growth, wellbeing and development.
Since 2012, through our website and cookbooks, One Handed Cooks have given hundreds of thousands of parents the knowledge and tools they need to wean their babies with confidence and by putting it altogether into our membership we are making it easier than ever!
Written by Jess Beaton, One Handed Cooks’ Accredited Practising Dietitian and mum of 4, our membership program is supported by the whole team. Together with founder Allie Gaunt and the extended team we have 10 children between us.
As busy parents ourselves, we know that you have limited time but still need support – even at odd hours and for many months (more than a 2 hour group session can offer!) That’s why we are bringing our trademark gentle and positive approach to feeding your family online and accessible to everyone with our Starting Solids membership.
For our latest journey we filmed baby Jude and Gracie’s from four months of age until just after their first birthday. We can show you first-hand what to experience and what’s possible. We have plenty of personal experience to share, in particular how each baby is unique to one another. We will help you tune into your own baby’s cues and preferences to make weaning just right for them.

With video and written content and a private, members-only online community we guide you from 4 months of age right through to their first birthday. We teach you how to recognise when your baby is ready for their first mouthful, what foods to offer when, how to safely introduce finger foods, progress with textured meals and family foods as well as navigate through fussy phases along the way. We provide you with developmental feeding milestones to help track your progress. And most importantly we help you to tune into your baby, recognise their feeding preferences and hunger and fullness cues as well as how to create safe, nutritious and happy mealtimes.
Starting Solids is suitable for anyone who is ready to start solids with their baby, or a baby they care for. Our membership is also ideal for those who have already started solids but would like to build on their confidence, need more support, or simply want all their burning questions answered. We welcome parents and carers of all types – grandparents, nannies, daycare providers and workers and carers.
Choose your membership plan, month-by-month or 9-months access, and check out through the cart process. You will gain immediate access to all our fabulous content as well as receive an email with a link and instructions to join our private Facebook and Instagram pages. On each return visit, access the program via the ‘Sign in’ button at the top of the home page.
You can join us at any time however our membership program primarily caters to babies between 4 and 12 months of age. Most babies are ready to start their first taste of solids between 5 and 6 months of age so waiting another month before you join will make it as cost efficient as possible and give you plenty of time to read up on all that you need to know. Now is the perfect time to just enjoy your baby. However, we know many parents crave as much information as possible so if you would like to join and watch our video sessions, immerse yourself in our content then feel free to come and join us! The more confident you are when you start the solids journey with your baby, the better.
Our membership is just as valuable and beneficial to parents and babies who have already started solids. Sometimes it’s even more useful. You have a place to navigate from and probably have specific questions or concerns we can help you with. If it’s gagging you are worried about, we have lots of content to reassure you. If it’s moving on from purees at 9 months of age we have lots of tips to help you progress with texture. If it’s food refusal we have endless strategies. If it’s throwing food, if it’s self-feeding, if it’s meal timing, if it’s high chair refusal we have tips, tricks and plenty of support to offer to you to help mealtimes be trusting, happy and nutritious.
Absolutely, every baby is unique in their starting solids journey and may show a particular preference to a certain style of feeding. Enjoying only purees at 10 months isn’t uncommon and we have lots of strategies and recipes to help you expand on the textures your baby accepts to help them develop and strengthen their oral motor skills to meet their developmental feeding milestones. We’re sure our fcommunity of parents will be able to share similar experiences and their success stories too. We can’t wait to help you!
You can access Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks and our members-only Facebook and Instagram groups for as long as you are a financial customer. Our 9-month one-off payment offers you 9-months of access from the day you joined and our month-to-month offers you access on a monthly basis until you cancel your membership. You can cancel at anytime and your membership access will end one month after your last payment.
Absolutely! If your role as a nanny includes preparing food and/or feeding a young baby, Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks will give you the opportunity and knowledge to do it with confidence.
Of course, we’d love for you to join. A lot has changed with respect to starting solids and feeding babies. If you spend a lot of time caring for your young grandchild, preparing food and feeding them then our membership will give you the support and up-to-date knowledge you may be craving. We’re sure your children will be grateful for the extra support too.
Our private, members-only Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks Facebook and Instagram groups are where we will be every step of the way to answer all your questions and help direct you to the videos and bits of content that will help you the most.
Our private Instagram page will also be a wealth of extra support where we will be there every step of the way to support you in your journey. If you don’t have Instagram either, that’s OK. There is plenty of information available for free however it can be tricky to navigate through the noise. It’s easy to become overwhelmed with where to look for what you want answers to. In Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks we share up-to-date and evidence-based knowledge and along with our wealth of personal and professional experience we’re here to guide and educate you every step of the way. From the moment you are trying to decide if they are showing signs of readiness for their first tastes, to their first foods, the introduction of finger foods and until their first birthday we help you tune into your baby to provide them with a happy and nutritious start to eating that suits them. Along with monthly video content, recipes and everything you need to teach your baby to eat a wide variety of nutritious foods, flavours and textures we have a wonderfully supportive community of like-minded parents to share experiences with.
These can be a great source of information for you as a place to get started however due to the time limitations of one-off seminars or webinars there is only so much information that can be covered. Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks extends on the basics of weaning and we answer all your questions as you and your baby progress through your journey. Our wealth of knowledge and personal experience of feeding our own children can offer you the confidence you need to tune into your own baby to give them the starting solids journey that best suits them.
We offer a 7-day money back guarantee, however after this time we are unable to offer any refunds. If your baby is between 9 and 12 months of age we recommend you choose our month-to-month plan. You can use it for as long as you need and cancel at any time. This will likely be the most cost efficient for you. However, if your baby is between 4 and 8 months of age, the 9-month membership one-off payment of $99.95 offers huge value, averaging out at a cost of $11.10 per month. Even if you think you have finished with the content, the access to the recipes, the private Facebook and Instagram pages, and guest experts is still great value at this price compared with the $19.95 month-to-month price. You might even find another nugget of gold or two in the content. If your baby is beyond 12 months and your 9-month membership is still continuing we will still be there to answer your questions in the private groups. There’s lots happening at this age that we can offer help and support for.
We offer a 7-day money back guarantee. We highly recommend you jump in as soon as you have signed up to Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks for a good look around and join our private groups as soon as possible to help you decide if it’s right for you. Of course we think you’re going to love it.
Your login details are just for you and cannot be shared. Your friend will miss out on some of the best parts of your membership, such as our member-only private groups and access to some guest experts. However, if you do love our program we would love you to share Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks as a recommendation! The more the merrier, we’d love to see your friends in the program too.
If you suspect your baby has a food allergy, their nutritional and/or developmental needs aren’t being met, your baby may require more individualised advice and attention beyond the scope of our program. If you have any concerns regarding the health and wellbeing of your baby at any time we will always recommend seeking the advice of your GP or paediatrician. Please read our disclaimer and Terms and Conditions for more. If your baby already has an underlying medical condition that is affecting their health and/or development, please contact us to see if Starting Solids with One Handed Cooks is right for you and how we can help and support you. We can offer individualised support outside of our membership program.
We can confidently say that this membership will be worth every cent. A true investment in the health and happiness at mealtimes right from the start. Having access to a wealth of up-to-date starting solids material and tried and tested recipes is worth it in itself. In addition, the connection with parents or carers at any time of the day, who are going through all of the struggles and wins that you are. Plus, probably the most valuable of all is access to our Accredited Practising Dietitian Jessica Beaton and experienced team of experts. Even if you have only one or two burning questions answered this can provide the confidence you need to continue the path of healthy, happy mealtimes. A single starting solids session can cost around $60+ and while we love one-on-one sessions this membership gives us the opportunity to connect and help more parents.
The price you sign up at is the price you will continue to pay until you opt out or your membership ends. We have priced the membership as low as possible to make it accessible to as many people as we can. If the price increases at any time in the future, it will only apply to new members only.
All questions in our private, members-only Facebook and Instagram groups will be answered by our team and you can ask questions anonymously. You can also use the search bar in our Facebook group to see if your question has been answered before.
Access to the private, members-only Facebook and Instagram groups is only available to financial members. Once your subscription ends you will no longer be able to be part of the groups. We want to keep these groups as relevant as possible for current members who are in the 4-12 month period of starting solids so their questions are always seen to. We’re confident once you complete your membership you and your baby will feel confident in your feeding style and strategies. You are welcome to join our free Facebook group for ongoing connection.
Once your subscription ends you will no longer have access to the locked membership material. The membership will be consistently added to, updated and evolving with new and up-to-date material. So if you have joined the membership with your first baby and then come back for your second, you will find the material updated. You are welcome to print any of the content for future reference before your membership ends.
